Lovesick is both the dark end of the street, and the promise of a stunning sunset. It’s the gut-wrenching feeling when you know that your love won’t last forever. It’s the song of the mourning dove – beautiful, somber, and resigned to a future of longing.

Capturing the magic of Lovesick brought Aviva & her talented band of friends up to the rolling, oak-studded hills of Mendocino, CA. Four hot summer days and nights were spent digging into the dry Northern California grasslands, and seeking refuge from the sun to make music inside a traditionally hand-built Japanese Shinto cabin. Inside those handmade walls, Lovesick was born: an album of dreamy, lonesome, soulful anthems made for nights by a fireplace, days in the breaking fog, and people willing to feel the depths of heartache.

Lovesick was co-produced by Aviva Lipkowitz & Matt Goff, engineered & mixed by Scott McDowell (Hyde Street Studios), and features performances by: Matt Goff on drums (Marty O’Reilly & the Old Soul Orchestra), Patrick Murphy on bass (Sitka Sun), Lorenzo Loera on keys (California Honeydrops), Inaiah Lujan on guitar (The Haunted Windchimes, in/PLANES), and Josiah Johnson (The Head & The Heart) and Chelsea Coleman on background vocals.

Aviva sings heart songs – some for love lost, and others for humanity forgotten – with a tone and cadence that somehow conjures both the vintage pop of the Fifties and the dark, dreamy sounds you might hear coming from that haunted backwoods bar in 1990s Twin Peaks, Washington. She offers a frequency of hopefulness, a frequency to cry to, a frequency that begs you to dig a bit deeper. Her songs are honest and endearing, bold and restless, easy to listen to and sometimes hard to hear. Aviva’s music invites you to look into the dark cracks of everything – it can be intimidating, but we all know that’s how the light gets in.

Aviva is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from the Bay Area, and has traveled far and wide to share her songs and play music with friends. Over the last few years, Aviva has supported John Craigie, Josiah Johnson (The Head & The Heart), Rainbow Girls, Kit Center & The Hollow Bones, and Chelsea Coleman, and shared the stage with Langhorne Slim, Tallest Man on Earth, Skyway Man, and Twain.
